Mary, did you know that your baby boy Will one day rule the nations? Did you know that your baby boy Was Heaven's perfect Lamb? This sleeping Child you're holding Is the great "I AM".

This song blew me away the first time I heard it.  As parents, we all have have hopes and dreams for our children and the lives they will someday lead.  So we can both identify with Mary and yet wonder at what kind of hopes and dreams she must have had for this child, so much like us all, yet so different. I've heard several artists do this, but I heard Kathy Mattea's version first, and still like it best.  This is a woman's song, and the background music expresses the mystery and wonder surrounding the birth of  Christ.  Her simple vocals make it easier to identify with the singer, and with Mary.  The vocals on this recording were done in a single take, a real rarity.
