| 12/6/2008 AP#4 11/30/2008 AP#4 USA Today #2 BCS #2 Well, the computers came through and gave us credit for winning against a ranked Big XII South opponent on the road - something neither Texas nor Tech were able to do. So OU is ranked above Texas and Tech, and will represent the Big XII South against a Missouri team that may find itself out of the rankings if it loses. Oklahoma should be more than able to take care of busines, but there were some casualties in last night's games that mean this may be more difficult than usual. 1. Austin Box, who had really stepped up to take charge of the middle linebacker position after Ryan Reynold's injury in the Texas game, went out early in the 2nd half with a sprained knee ligament, and won't be back for about 4 weeks. 2. Sam Bradford has some torn ligaments in his left (non-throwing) hand. He'll play next week, probably with a soft cast, then have surgery immediately after the Big XII conference game to try to get it back to full strength for a bowl game, quite possibly the National Championship game. But first, Missouri. . . 11/29/2008 AP#3 USA Today #2 BCS #3 7:00 Kickoff Oklahoma 0 Oklahoma State 0 Another huge game, hopefully the 2nd of 3 straight weeks. Big XII championship is still very much up for grabs. And with it the inside track to the National Championship. But first, the Sooners have to get past a very good Oklahoma State team. 7:55 End 1Q Oklahoma 7 Oklahoma State 3 The big difference so far is 1 interception. Oklahoma has not been able for drive for more than 33 yards so far, but the defense has thus far kept OSU out of the end zone. Hope the defense holds and Bradford makes a case for why he should win the Heisman. 8:45 Halftime Oklahoma 21 Oklahoma State 13 I liked the way OU moved the ball on those last 2 drives. Very very efficient. I'd like to see the defense get to Robinson a bit more. The zebras seem to be afraid of T Boone Pickens with a bogus interference call and lack of a late hit call. 9:55 End 3Q Oklahoma 37 Oklahoma State 26 I can't believe the on field umpire missed the fumble Nic Haris recovered. I can't believe Stoops didn't challenge it. Worse, I can't believe the defense didn't stop OSU. I loved the 2 point attempt that led to 2 points for OU. But any quarter OU scores more than OSU is a good one. 10:45 Final Oklahoma 61 Oklahoma State 41 Wow, what a great finish to a great game. Oklahoma was pushed to show they were great, not just good, and proved it. The contrast between Mack Brown's politicking and Stoop's decision to let the on-field performance speak for itself could not have been sharper. GO SOONERS!!!!!!!!!!! 11/22/2008 AP#5 USA Today #5 BCS#5 7:00 Kickoff Texas Tech 0 Oklahoma 0 Huge game. A chance at redemption for the loss against Texas to get back into the picture for the Big XII championship and the National Championship. 7:55 End 1Q Texas Tech 0 Oklahoma 7 I sure thought this would have been a higher scoring game than this. I wondered when the last time time Tech went scoreless for the 1st quarter was, but then the announcers said it was 14 games ago. A few weeks ago, the OU offensive line was named player of the game. This week, give it to the defense. 8:55 Halftime Texas Tech 7 Oklahoma 42 I'm lovin' it. Two stops on 4th down. Lots of O, and a couple gifts. Unbelievable! Superb clock management by Kevin Wilson and Sam Bradford. 10:55 End 3Q Texas Tech 14 Oklahoma 58 Wow! Oklahoma is having an amazing game. About the only people who can slow Oklahoma down tonight are the zebras. 10:50 Final Texas Tech 21 Oklahoma 65 Ouch. I'm disappointed that the Red Raiders were able to keep OU out of the endzone. Why on earth was Harrell still playing at the end? I guess I thought that if OU scored 65 tonight that they'd win, but I never thought we'd hold Texas Tech to 21. ABC named Bradford as plaer of the game, but I really do think the defense deserved it. GO SOONERS!!!!!!!!!! 11/8/08 AP#6 USA Today#4 2:30 Kickoff Oklahoma 0 Texas A&M 0 This is the 3rd of 3 soft Big XII games OU has this year. There are some things OU really needs to develop this game before hitting the home stretch against Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. They need to fill holes at middle linebacker(Ryan Reynolds) and on defensive line (Auston English). They need a reliable place kicker, and they need to be able to stop kickoff returns. 3:35 End 1Q Oklahoma 21 Texas A&M 0 It is quickly becoming apparent the ABC did not send their "A" crew to College Station. Commenting on A&M fans giving their team a "standing ovation" when they earned their first 1st Down? Um, guys, A&M fans stand for the whole game. You're supposed to know this. At the end of the 1st Quarter OU had 238 total yards. No you "don't need to tell us that if they keep this up, they'll be over 1,000 yards for the day" because they won't 4x 238 = 952 yards, not over 1,000. I'm sure ABC can afford a calculator. Ask them next time you want to do some math. 4:30 Halftime Oklahoma 38 Texas A&M 14 Wish List going in to today's game: Replacement for Ryan Reynolds. Austin Box seems to be getting it done. Replacement for Auston English. Frank Alexander seems to be getting it done. A reliable place kicker. Not happening. A kick defense. Doing better, but they had one big miss. 5:40 End 3Q Oklahoma 66 Texas A&M 21 We really really need to figure out kickoff defense. One touchdown; one "save" at the OU 25 that led to a touchdown for A&M. Jimmy Stephens has seemed to find the center of the goalposts on PATs. Maybe he got mad when Stoops gave the FG attempt to Moreland and found some focus. 6:20 Final Oklahoma 66 Texas A&M 28 Another one in the win column; another exclamation point below. Now the Sooners have 2 weeks to prep for Texas Tech. I really hope Tech knocks off the Cowboys tonight, because the best chance Oklahoma has to make it to Kansas City for the Big XII Championship is a three way tie and 2 late season quality wins against Tech and OSU. GO SOONERS!!!!!!!!! 11/2/08 AP#6 USA Today #4 BCS#6 Amazing, How do you drop Nebraska 62-28 and lose two spots? I can see Tech jumping us, but Florida? No way. 11/1/08 AP#4 USA Today#4 7:00 Kickoff Nebraska 0 Oklahoma 0 It may not be for the National Championship, or even the Big XII Championship, but it's still an OU-Nebraska game, and should bring out the best in both teams. They even had a dinner last night for the players of the 1971 Game of the Century. 7:15 1Q 11:26 Nebraska 0 Oklahoma 21 Well, I'm going to miss the rest of this one to go to a ZZ Top concert, but it seems like Oklahoma is taking care of business. 11:30 Final Nebraska 28 Oklahoma 62 And it wasn't that close. . . GO SOONERS!!!!!!!! 10/26/08 AP#4 USA Today#4 And then there were 2. Oklahoma State fell from the ranks of the unbeaten after falling to Texas is a close game. Now it's just Texas and Texas Tech. Oklahoma has the opportunity to take care of Tech, but it's going to take a lot of help to wind up on top of Texas. 10/25/08 AP#4 USA Today#4 11:30 Kickoff Oklahoma 0 Kansas State 0 I don't know what to expect from this game. I think K-State's quarterback, Josh Freeman deserves more attention than he currently gets, but that he doesn't have the supporting cast for K-State to be anything more than a spoiler in a quarterback-rich Big XII conference. Let's hope the spoiler role does not happen today! 12:40 End 1Q Oklahoma 28 Kansas State 14 4 drives, 4 touchdowns. That's pretty efficient! K-State did finally force a punt at the end of the quarter on our 5th drive of the quarter. I just wish OU's defense was a little more effective at stopping K-State. 11 drives in a quarter is a lot of offense! I did like the forced interception that led to OU's first score. 1:40 Halftime Oklahoma 55 Kansas State 28 It's not often a team goes into the locker room at the halftime break with a 27 point lead, and worries if it's going to be enough. But that's how I feel right now. Oklahoma still needs to come up with an answer for how to replace Ryan Reynolds. 2:30 End 3Q Oklahoma 55 Kansas State 35 I don't whether it's that Oklahoma & K-State figured out how to play defense or if their offenses were exhausted from the 1st half, but this looked a little less like a basketball game and more like football. 3:30 Final Oklahoma 58 Kansas State 35 I'm glad to have this one over. The 1st half was entertaining, but it was good to see the defense assert themselves. I'm surprised K-State stopped running Freeman. They were much less effective as a one-dimensional passing offense than when they were running. I know tradition didctates that you go to the air when you have to catch up, but that really didn't seem to work very well for them. GO SOONERS!!!!!!! 10/18/08 AP#4 USA Today #4 2:30 Kickoff Kansas 0 Oklahoma 0 Kansas is a team that could hurt Oklahoma if Oklahoma does not play their best. I hope everyone's ready! 3:30 End 1Q Kansas 7 Oklahoma 7 That elbow injury to Manuel Johnson looked really bad. I hope he's not out for the season. I hope Oklahoma gets their offense on track. 1 score for 3 drives is not a typical OU 1st Quarter. 4:40 Halftime Kansas 17 Oklahoma 24 The defense has been alternately brilliant and porous. Great goal line stand to force the FG, thanks to Lindy Holmes, but letting KU score in 25 seconds was not good at all. It looks like Oklahoma is really trying to get a running game on track. 21 designed rush plays, with three plays going for 10+ yards. If they keep at it, someone should break one for a long gain. 5:45 End 3Q Kansas 24 Oklahoma 38 Oklahoma is starting to look like they're taking charge of this one. But with the way KU can move the ball, it's not time to relax yet. 6:40 Final Kansas 31 Oklahoma 45 Whew! I'm glad to see this one in the win column. It was good to see Oklahoma play well into the 4th quarter. They hadn't been pushed until last week, and didn't play well in the 4th quarter then. It was quite apparent that the defense has more work to do to try to fill in for Ryan Reynolds. And Bradford missed his favorite receiver with Manuel Johnson out. Interesting stat shown during the game was that 7 of the Top 10, and 9 of the top 15 quarterbacks play for the Big XII. That's impressive! GO SOONERS!!!!!! 10/11/08 AP#1 USA Today #1 10:50 Kickoff Texas 0 Oklahoma 0 #1 vs #5 face off today for the inside track to the Big XII South championship and possibly, the National Championship if they can make it through the rest of the season. Only one team will be unbeaten after today's rivalry game. Which one will it be? 12:00 End 1Q Texas 3 Oklahoma 7 So far so good. 1st drive for a TD, then 2 drives that went nowhere. I hope our defense can continue to keep them out of the end zone. 12:45 Halftime Texas 20 Oklahoma 21 Close game! I think the refs blew the end zone call, denying OU an interception that would have stopped the Longhorns from scoring the FG at the end of the half. I wonder why Stoops didn't challenge that one. I hope Ryan Reynolds is OK. 1:45 End 3Q Texas 30 Oklahoma 28 This is turning in to a real nail biter. The fake punt attempt was gutsy. I wish it had worked. It was close, but not really close enough to need replay. At least Texas only scored a FG off of it. 2:40 Final Texas 45 Oklahoma 35 Oklahoma lost a hard fought game. A whole lot of things added up on this one. A non-interception. Dubious "late hits". A big hole in the middle where no one quite filled in for Ryan Reynolds. A one-yard-short run by punter Mike Knall. The botton line is that Texas finished the game and Oklahoma couldn't. There's a lot of season left, and anything can happen, but this loss hurts. GO SOONERS!!!!! 10/4/08 AP#1 USA Today #1 11:30 Kickoff Oklahoma 0 Baylor 0 Opening day for Big XII play. All 6 ranked teams play against unranked teams, so no big rivalry games today. But there's a lot of teams who want to be players in the Big XII who are going to be trying to knock off some of the ranked teams... After last year, I have to think OU won't be looking past their first week opponent to the Red River Shootout next week. But I really think Baylor shouldn't give the Sooners too much trouble. At least I hope that's the case! 12:25 End 1Q Oklahoma 28 Baylor 0 So far so good. Manuel Johnson looks ready to pick up where he left off last week. 1:15 Halftime Oklahoma 35 Baylor 14 Defense seems to be a little bit flat today. Good thing the offense has been so good! I wish Fox would do a better job of showing us the start of more plays. I guess that's an indication of just how uptempo the Sooner offense is! 2:15 End 3Q Oklahoma 42 Baylor 17 It's good to see lots of Sooners getting to play today. Seems to be a lot of slipping and sliding on this field for a day with no bad weather. 3:10 Final Oklahoma 49 Baylor 17 Another one in the win column. I just realized that none of the current players would have ever played while OU was #1 in the past, since the last time the Sooners were #1 was in 2003. They seemed to take the ranking with a "business-as-usual" attitude, and they did a great job today takin' care of business. GO SOONERS!!!!! 9/28/08 AP#1 USA Today #1 OU is on top of the polls for the 1st time since 2003. It's nice to see, but it's the end-of-the-season poll that matters. One stat I didn't realize is that with this being the 96th time the Sooners have been ranked #1, they have been ranked #1 more than any other team. GO SOONERS!!!! 9/27/08 AP#2 USA Today #2 11:30 PM Eastern Time Final TCU 10 Oklahoma 35 Another game I didn't get to watch. I was away in Boston, so no regional coverage. But I kept track of it on Yahoo! It seemed as if there were a lot of long pass plays for TDs, quite a few sacks, and no running game to speak of. TCU was supposed to have a great defensive line, and it seems they do. But OU was better, and chalked up another win. GO SOONERS!!!! 9/25/08 AP#2 USA Today #2 Thump-thump-thump Another one bites the dust! USC falls from the ranks of the unbeaten. Oklahoma is master of their own destiny. GO SOONERS!!! 9/20/08 AP#2 USA Today #2 Bye Week Not much happening with the Sooners, but several other teams dropping games. GO SOONERS!!! 9/13/08 AP#3 USA Today #3 6:30 Kickoff Oklahoma 0 Washington 0 OU should dominate this one. But then, with Pac-10 officials, they may have to in order to emerge victorious. Washington knows this all too well, after an absurd "excessive celebration" call resulted in a too-long try for the game-tying PAT against BYU last week. 7:30 End 1Q Oklahoma 13 Washington 0 3 games, 3 1st drives going for TDs. That's a stat I'd love to see reach 14 for the year. The Sooners seem to be playing their "A" game on both sides of the ball . 8:25 Halftime Oklahoma 34 Washington 0 Things continue to go well for the Sooners. I hope Broyles can stay out of future disciplinary trouble. Not ready to say Malcolm who yet, but Broyles is a very potent weapon for Bradford & the Sooner offense. 9:25 End 3Q Oklahoma 48 Washington 7 There goes the shutout. (Yeah, I am that greedy) I do hope Granger is not seriously hurt. Gresham sure is looking good. 10:05 Final Oklahoma 55 Washington 14 Happy 48th Birthday, Bob. 3 games into your 10th season at OU, you have Win #100. That puts you in some pretty fine company alongside Bennie Owen, Bud Wilkinson, and Barry Switzer and makes Oklahoma the 1st program to have 4 100-win head coaches. Congratulations, and I hope you have several hundred more wins by the time you're ready to give the X's and O's a rest. I am becoming happier and happier with the change in the offensive tempo this year. Looking back at OU's losses last year, they were allagainst teams that blindsided our defense with plays they didn't have time to set up for. I hope Oklahoma continues making defensive coordinator an oxymoron for opponents. GO SOONERS!!! 9/7/08 12:50 The Big XII is now 22-2 for the season, including a 12-0 day yesterday. This is critical to everyone in the conference having better strength-of-schedule ratings towards the end of the season. I'd like to see it not matter for OU because they earned their ticket to the BCS Championship Game on the field, but some things (like the final records for other key teams) aren't under their control. GO BIG XII 9/6/08 AP#4 USA Today #4 2:30 Kickoff Cincinnati 0 Oklahoma 0 Cincinnati could be a tough game for the Sooners. I'm glad it's a home game 3:15 End 1Q Cincinnat 0 Oklahoma 14 Have to love that opening driive. I hope the running game gets on track! :) OK, second drive answered that "concern". Our special teams are going to need to do better in closer games, though. It seems like we're losing the field position game. 4:15 Halftime Cincinnati 13 Oklahoma 21 I wasn't asking for this to be a closer game. Really! But their special teams (at least on kickoff returns) are keeping them in it. I think the Bearcats would have a few more points on the board if they had a good place kicker. 5:25 End 3Q Cincinnati 20 Oklahoma 42 Well the kickoff return team seemed to have its act together a little bit more, but I was glad to see the opening kickoff go into the endzone for no return. 6:10 Final Cincinnati 20 Oklahoma 52 I like seeing Madu get some carries. Very sorry to see Grutza hurt - makes the looming decision regarding Ben Mauk very important to the rest of the season for Cincinnati. Overall, a very satisfying game. GO SOONERS!! 8/30/08 AP#4 USA Today #4 6:00 Kickoff Chattanooga 0 Oklahoma 0 Looking forward to this one - go Sooners! 6:55 End 1Q Chattanooga 0 Oklahoma 27 Liked the 1st quarter. Only 1 1st down given up, and Sooner offense went for 4 touchdowns in 4 possessions. I think the switch to a no-huddle offense is going to tie defenses up in knots. 7:40 Halftime Chattanooga 0 Oklahoma 50 Yay, Sooner offense! Way to hang half a hundred on them! 9:45 End 3Q Chattanooga 2 Oklahoma 57 Hard to follow the game right now since there's no TV coverage, and has been no radio coverage since there was a delay of almost 2 hours before the 3rd quarter got underway. 10:25 Final Chattanooga 2 Oklahoma 57 Not much happening in the 4th Quarter. I'm really looking forward to SEEING them on TV next week! GO SOONERS! 8/29/08 AP#4 USA Today #4 Game Day Eve. Yay! No TV coverage. Boo! I hope the Sooners remember to show up & play this one. Lots to lose, not much to gain this weekend. Go Sooners, Go! 8/1/08 2007 Final AP Rank #8 Another blank Sooner page for another new season. What will be written upon this page? Another BCS Bowl in which the Sooners appear to have sent in cardboard cutouts of the players? A season of shattered dreams early on? Perhaps a chronicle of a National Championship? Everything is possible, and that is the beauty of a new college football season. BOOMER SOONER |
